NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona University Volleyball team faced off against Saint Peter's in Metro atlantic Athletic conference play, the two team's second meeting of the season. The first tilt went the Gael's way, winning at Saint Peter's in a five-set decision.
The Rundown
Iona dropped the first set 20-25 but bounced back with two straight set victories, both finishing 25-17 in the Gael's favor. Saint Peter's would return in the fourth and hand Iona a 23-25 loss to send the game to a deciding fifth set. After trailing by a point early, The Maroon & Gold would go on a 5-0 run and maintain the lead for a 15-6 victory, taking the match 3-2.Â

Buse Tinaz would tally 12 blocks on the night, the first match with more than 10 blocks for a Gael since Karly White accomplished the feat in 2016. Led by the Bursa, Turkey natives' big night, the Maroon & Gold snatched their first victory in the month of November, and their 17th straight against the Peacocks. Four Gaels would tally double-digit kills.Â
IONA PERFORMERS
- Buse Tinaz counted an outstanding career-high 12 assisted blocks in the victory. The 12-block tally landed her tied third on the list for most blocks in a match in Iona Volleyball history.Â
- Taylor Timko achieved career-highs in both kills and points, with 12 and 14.0 respectively. The Rookie's impressive night also ended with a career high in digs with five, while totaling four assisted blocks.Â
- Graduate Student Grace Ehler strung together her fourth match in a row with more than a dozen kills with 13 this afternoon. The Tuscon Arizona native counted seven assisted blocks and 3 digs ,finishing the afternoon with 16.5 points. Â
- Mija Jegers tallied 13.5 points in an afternoon that saw her tally 12 kills, seven digs, and three assisted blocks all while holding a .310 hitting percentage.Â
- Jen Soto was the fourth Gael to land double-digit kills with 11. The Graduate Student finished a 15.0 afternoon with half a dozen assisted blocks.Â
- Jordan Ader and Emma Vu took turns dishing out assists, counting 16 and 19 respectively. Â
THE OPPONENT
- Maliyah LaBrie tallied 18 kills, leading all players on court. The outside hitter had a 20.5-point outing with three assisted blocks, an ace, and six digs. Â
- Cleopatra Diakou led all players on the court in assists with 27. The Sophomore also counted three digs.Â
