THE RUNDOWN
Mount St. Mary's took an early 16-5 lead through the first seven and a half minutes taking advantage of a cold start by the Gaels on the offensive end. Iona converted just one of its first 13 attempts from the field, missing its first eight. The Maroon & Gold quickly got back into the game, however, scoring the next 13 straight points over a 4:51 span and led 18-16 following a steal and a wide-open Brown layup with 7:03 to play that made the score 18-16. Iona's largest lead was 25-22 with 2:48 remaining on a pull up jumper inside the paint by Quigley. The Mountaineers scored the final eight points of the half to take a 30-25 advantage into the break.

After the Mount scored on its first two possessions of the second half to increase its run to 12-0 and a nine-point lead, the Gaels scored 11 of the next 13 points to even the score at 36-36 at 16:17. It was the final tie score of the contest as Mount St. Mary's answered with an 11-2 run of their own over the next 4:21, reclaiming a nine point lead with 11:18 remaining. Six straight Iona points got the game within one possession less than two minutes later. The home team answered with seven straight and the first double-digit lead of the contest. Down 10 with 5:01 to play, Iona chipped away with a 13-4 run and trailed by one with 1:17 on the clock. The Mountaineers scored eight straight including six from the free throw line before a Quigley layup on the final possession made the final margin of seven.
IONA PERFORMERS
- Tretout scored 21 points with the help of four three-pointers and a 7-for-7 performance from the charity stripe. He added four assists, three rebounds and a steal.
- Brown scored a season best 14 points, shooting 6-for-12 from the field with a three-pointer. He posted five rebounds, five assists and three steals.
- Quigley added 12 points and five rebounds.
- Graduate Wheza Panzo had six points and two blocks.
THE OPPONENT
- Mount rookie De'Shayne Montgomery recorded 25 points, five assists and four rebounds for the home team, shooting 9-for-14 from the field and 7-of-8 from the line.
- Terrell Ard Jr. had a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double with five assists.
- Joshua Reaves added 12 points and George Tinsley had 10 points in the win.
TEAM STATS
- Mount St. Mary's outshot Iona 48.1%-36.5%. The Gaels had the advantage from long distance, 9-3 on makes but the Mountaineers were 17-for-20 (85.0%) from the free throw line to the Maroon & Gold's 10-for-11 (90.9%).
- The Mount outrebounded the Gaels 41-27, though offensive boards were knotted at 7-7 and held a slight 9-7 advantage on second chance points.
- Iona posted 12 assists and eight turnovers, while Mount St. Mary's had 11 assists and 14 giveaways. The visitors led 14-13 on points off turnovers.
