NEW ROCHELLE, NY— Graduate student
Sierra DeAngelo reached the 1,000-career points milestone on Saturday afternoon in the Iona University women's basketball team's 85-49 defeat to league-leading Fairfield at the Hynes Athletic Center.
Entering the game five points shy of the career-milestone, DeAngelo reached the mark with her layup at 7:12 of the third quarter for her second basket of the game and she went on to score a team high 13 points for the Maroon & Gold.
THE RUNDOWN
The high-powered Stags jumped out to a commanding 20-0 run through the first six minutes of the game. DeAngelo got the Gaels on the board with a turnaround at the 1:32 mark of the first quarter.

Iona struck first out of the break as sophomore
Petra Oborilova connected on a three-point basket on the first possession of the third quarter. After trading points in the opening minute of the third, scoring slowed for the next two minutes. DeAngelo netted her milestone basket at the 7:12 mark of the quarter with a back down layup on the right block. A 25-17 margin in the final quarter gave Fairfield its 17th
straight victory and the 85-49 victory for the regular season sweep over the Gaels.
IONA PERFORMERS
- DeAngelo led the Iona offense for the fourth consecutive game with a team-high 13 points.
- She recorded 775 career points in four seasons at FDU and has registered 233 points this season for the Maroon & Gold for a career total of 1,008 points in 124 career games played.
- Givon posted 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting to go with a pair of steals.
- Ella Fajardo registered eight points and five rebounds for Iona.
- Ward tied her career-high with seven points and dished out a pair of assists and a couple steals.

- Fairfield had 10 different scorers contribute on Saturday afternoon, led by a game-high 15 points from Janelle Brown.
- Meghan Andersen added 12 points and four rebounds for the Stags.
- Emina Selimovic chipped in 10 points to go with five rebounds and a block.

- Fairfield shot a blistering 56.6% clip from the field while Iona shot 36.4% on Saturday afternoon.
- The Stags went 14-of-31 from distance for a 45.2% three-point percentage. The Gaels were held to a 19.0% three-point field goal percentage, going 4-of-21 from downtown.
