ORANGE, CA - Iona women's water polo lost two close games to start the Convergence Tournament, in the opening game the Gaels fell to Concordia in overtime 11-10. In the afternoon game vs (RV) Biola won 14-13 for Iona's second one goal loss.Â
GAME SUMMARY
In Iona's OT loss the offense was led by
Lola Trujillo with three goals on seven shots.
Sadie Sallas and
Bella Morquecho added two goals each,
Isabella Adams,
Lily Graham, and
Kaya Hart also found the back of the net. Iona drew a season high 20 exclusions. Trujillo added another three sprint wins.
Lilly Morris played all 38 minutes in net for the Maroon & Gold, she made 13 saves on 33 shots. Iona stole the ball seven times while only turning it over three times the lowest game total of the season.Â
Against the Receiving votes Biola the Gaels used a big third period to take a one goal lead into the fourth before falling 14-13. Amelia Gonzalez led the offense with the Gaels second hat trick of the day. Sallas, Addison Collins, and Mia Tovar added two each. Hart and Adams along with Maleah Penman recorded one goal each. Trujillo went 4-0 once again on swim-offs. Â
Lilly Morris played 24 minutes allowing 12 goals and making nine saves. Freshman
Zasha Soler played eight minutes allowing two goals and only one save. The two goalkeepers combined for four steals, as a team the Gaels collected 11 steals. Iona was kicked out nine times and drew ten.

Iona will play Santa Clara and Cal State Fullerton tomorrow for day two of the 2024 Convergence Tournament.Â
