LEXINGTON, VA - In the opening Day of Conference play the Maroon & Gold split the day falling 14-4 to LIU early this morning and then defeated La Salle 10-9 in the afternoon. In the win Kaya Hart found the back of the net for the game winner. Sadie Sallas recorded hat tricks in both games today.
In the morning game against the Sharks, Sallas netted three goals and
Isabella Adams scored the Gaels other goal.
Lilly Morris played 13 minutes making three saves and allowed eight goals, Freshman
Zasha Soler played the other 19 allowing six goals. Iona was kicked out 12 times while drawing six LIU kick-outs.
Lola Trujillo went 2-for-2 on swim-offs.
In the win over the Explorers, Morris got the start and won playing all 32 minutes. She made ten saves allowing nine goals on 27 shots faced. The offense was led by Sallas as she recorded her second hat trick of the day. Hart's lone goal was the game winner with 45 seconds left in the game. Bella Morquecho, Trujillo, Amelia Gonzalez, Remy Ickes, Adams, and Kaitlyn Williams all scored one goal each.
Morris set a team high with three steals and the Gaels drew nine exclusions while being kicked out nine times as well. Trujillo added two assists and improved her season swim-off record to 56-7.
Iona will continue with MAAC weekend play with a single game tomorrow against Villanova.
