LEXINGTON, VA - Iona Women's Water Polo fell in their final game of MAAC play's opening weekend to Villanova, 10-7. Bella Morquecho and Sadie Sallas combined for four goals on nine shots.
The other three Iona goals came off the hands of
Kaya Hart,
Kaitlyn Williams, and
Addison Collins.
Amelia Gonzalez and
Lola Trujillo collected the two assists, and Trujillo went 4-0 on swim-offs. As a team the Gaels fired off 27 shots and drew eight Villanova kick-outs.
In net for the Maroon & Gold
Lilly Morris played 24 minutes making nine saves and giving up five goals. Freshman
Zasha Soler played eight minutes making four saves and allowing five goals; they combined to face 29 Wildcat shots. Iona was kicked out seven times and Hart recorded the Gaels lone field block.
Iona will return to action on March 20 at 6pm, they will travel on the road to Princeton, NJ to battle the Tigers in a non-conference match-up.
