STONY BROOK, NY — The Iona University baseball team came up short in a mid-week contest at Stony Brook, falling 8-2 on Tuesday afternoon. The Gaels were out hit by the Seawolves 10-3 at Joe Nathan Field.
GAME SUMMARY
Stony Brook grabbed the first runs of the game in the second inning on a one-out two-run single to center field. Back-to-back doubles in the third inning gave the Seawolves the 3-0 advantage.
The home team extended its lead in the sixth inning as four runs would score in the frame on three hits and two Iona errors. Stony Brook grabbed its final run in the eighth inning on a fielding error by the Gaels.
Iona was held to just one hit through the first eight innings, a single by sophomore
Josiah Ragsdale in the first inning.

Anthony Febo grabbed the team's second hit on a double to right center field to lead off the ninth. Sophomore
Nickolas Mora reached on a throwing error by the Seawolves as Febo scored all the way from first on the play to get Iona on the scoreboard. Junior
Jayson Gonzalez capped the scoring with a two-out double to right field to bring the final to 8-2.
The Gaels were held to a season low three hits by Stony Brook. Tuesday was a bullpen day for Iona as eight different pitchers saw an inning of work. Freshman

Due to unplayable field conditions at City Park after this past weekend's rainstorm, Iona's scheduled home series against Fairfield will now take place at Cook Field. The Gaels will still be the designated home team as the series begins at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 26 as part of a doubleheader.
