FAIRFIELD, CT - Iona women's lacrosse program took the no. 25 ranked Fairfield Stags tied 4-4 into the second half, but the Stags used a monster second half to pull away from the Gaels and took the victory, 16-6. Iona falls to 6-3 on the season and 1-1 in MAAC play.
Iona's offense was led by graduate student
Emily Stewart scoring her 25th and 26th goals of the season.

Kate Krueger, and
Kira Varada all notched one goal each. Varada now sits at 99 goals and is one away from reaching 100 in her career. Iona assisted on four of the six goals and were 2-for-10 on free position chances.
As a team the Gaels took 21 shots with 12 being on net. They collected seven draw controls, and Varada set a tema high with three. The Stags assisted on eight of their 16 goals and took 40 shots. They collected 19 draw controls and were 4-for-7 on free positions chances.
Lauren Sweeney got the start once again for the Maroon & Gold, playing all 60 minutes. She faced 40 shots with 29 of them being on net. The sophomore goalkeeper made 13 saves and added three ground balls and two caused turnovers. As a group the Gaels picked up 15 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers. Varada tried Sweeney for the team high in ground balls and caused turnovers.
Iona is back home this Saturday Mar. 30 against the Saints of Siena. Game is scheduled for a noon start with senior day ceremony starting at 11 am.
