NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Iona Lacrosse fell to 9-4 and 4-2 in the MAAC after falling 19-10 to the Purple Eagles of Niagara at home Thursday afternoon. Sophomore Maliya Haddock notched a hat trick and added one assist for a team high of four points.
The rest of Iona's offense was led by
Emily Stewart as she found the back of the net twice,
Micaela FitzPatrick,
Maliya Haddock,
Alexa Skoubas,
Arianna Burns and freshman
Calen Norton all scored one goal each.
As a team the Gaels took 28 shots with 19 being on net. Iona only assisted on half of the ten goals with
Kira Varada notching two. They collected 18 draw controls with Stewart dominating the draws with a game high of ten. Stewart became just the third Gael in school history to record ten or more draw controls in a game. Gaels went 2-for-4 on free position shots with Niagara going 4-for-8.
Lauren Sweeney allowed 19 goals on 37 shots faced, she made seven saves and caused one turnover. The sophomore goal set a team and game high with five ground balls. As a team Iona collected 18 ground balls, caused nine Niagara turnovers. Isabella Walker was the lone Gael to collect multiple caused turnovers.
The Maroon & Gold will travel to Hamden, CT this Saturday for a 3 pm start against the Bobcats of Quinnipiac.
