Iona Lacrosse Sets Program Record With Tenth Win Of The Season

HAMDEN, CT - Senior Micaela FitzPatrick found the back of the net 46 seconds in OT to give the Gaels their program record 10th win in a single-season, and their most MAAC wins in a single season with five. Maliya Haddock scored a career high five goals in the victory. With the win the Gaels have secured a spot in the 2024 MAAC Championships from April 28 - May 5 

Micaela FitzPatrick and Kira Varada combined for seven more Iona goals while Emily Stewart and Kate Krueger scored one goal each. Kacie Scarduzio led the team with two of the team's three assists. Stewart led the team with eight draw controls as the Gaels dominated on the draw with nine more than the Bobcats. Iona took 34 shots with all but seven being on net. 

Lauren Sweeney allowed 13 goals on 44 shots faced, she made 12 saves and caused one turnover and was one of four Gaels to record at least three ground balls. As a team Iona collected 19 ground balls, caused nine Quinnipiac turnovers. Varada and Carly Linthicum combined for five of the nine caused turnovers.  

The Maroon & Gold will host Marist this Wednesday at 3pm on Mazzella Field for the Gaels final regular-season home game.
