BRONX, NY — The Iona University baseball team dropped its series opener to Manhattan, by a final score of 14-4 on Friday afternoon. The Gaels and Jaspers squared off at Houlihan Park at Fordham due to unplayable conditions at Westchester Community College due to last night's rainstorm.

Carter Groen led the Maroon & Gold with two hits each against the Jaspers. Groen and graduate student

Nickolas Mora all drove in a run.
GAME SUMMARY
Manhattan got on the scoreboard first on a two-out RBI single to left center in the bottom of the first for the early lead.
The Gaels offense answered in the third as Groen led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on an errant throw. Pasquale followed that up by lining a single to center field, allowing Groen to score and knot the game up. A single by Kemp and a walk to graduate student
Garret Gray followed to load the bases. Zollo gave Iona the lead with a sacrifice fly to right field to score Pasquale. The third run of the inning came on a sacrifice squeeze by Mora for the 3-1 lead.
Manhattan punched back in the bottom of the inning utilizing a two-out two run home run to tie the game up at 3-3.
The Jaspers capitalized on the long ball again in the fifth inning with a two-run shot to right center to take the 5-3 lead. Manhattan's offense continued to click in the sixth inning, grabbing control with five runs on five hits to jump out to seize a seven-run advantage.
Iona grabbed its final run in the eighth inning as Groen recorded the RBI ground out to third to score graduate student
Nick Forney.
Manhattan capped the scoring in bottom half with four runs on four hits including the team's fifth home run of the day to bring the final score to 14-4.

- Ragsdale posted his 15th multi-hit game of the season with a pair of singles today.
- Groen recorded his sixth multi-hit game on the year.
- Kemp two hits today was the fifth time he's had multiple hits in a game.
- Junior Jayson Gonzalez extended his hitting streak to nine straight games after a first inning base knock. He has reached base safely in the last 20 games for the Maroon & Gold.
