NEW YORK, NY — The Iona University softball team dropped a midweek non-conference tilt to Columbia 10-6, on Wednesday afternoon at Columbia Softball Stadium. The Gaels faced with an early deficit, scored runs in the final four innings of play looking for a late rally against the Lions.

Sophomore Brooke Acker went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in the third inning, the first of her career. Senior Emma Capuano also added two hits and a sixth inning home run. Senior Jamie Sheeran also posted multiple hits.

GAME SUMMARY

Columbia came out swinging to start the game, utilizing a two-run shot and grand slam to score seven runs in the opening inning. The Lions plated three more runs in the second inning on a solo shot and two-run home run to take a 10-0 lead.
