NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Iona University baseball team concluded the non-conference portion of its 2024 schedule on Wednesday evening, falling 10-5 to Yale at George H.W. Bush '48 Field.
Sophomore
Anthony Zollo collected his 100
th career hit with a leadoff single in the fifth inning. Freshman
Carter Groen led the Maroon & Gold with three hits against the Bulldogs. Graduate student

GAME SUMMARY
Yale got the scoring going in the first inning on a sacrifice squeeze with one-out and runners on first and third for the 1-0 advantage.
The Bulldogs grabbed firm control of the lead after a five-run third inning, capitalizing on three hits and four walks in the frame.
Iona got going in the top half of the fourth as sophomore
Josiah Ragsdale reached on a catcher's interference. He would advance all the way to third on a single to centerfield by Groen and an error in the outfield. Pasquale recorded an RBI groundout for the first run for the Gaels.
Zollo kicked off the fifth inning with his 100
th career hit before a one-out walk to sophomore
Nickolas Mora put two runners on for Iona. A fielder's choice at second and an errant throw allowed Zollo to cross the dish and bring the score to 6-2.
Yale punched back in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run home run to right center to push the lead to eight.
Groen's one-out single to center field jumpstarted the Iona offense back up in the eighth inning. Pasquale followed with a single before Overton lined an RBI double to center field for the first run of the inning. With runners on second and third, a four-pitch walk to Zollo with a wild pitch allowed Pasquale to score the second run. An RBI sacrifice fly by Febo cut the deficit to three.
The Bulldogs capped the scoring in the bottom of the eighth inning on a pair of RBI singles to bring the score to 10-5. Iona was held to one hit in the top of the ninth, a two-out double to left center by Groen.
NOTABLE NUGGETS
- Zollo becomes the third Gael to record 100 career hits in the last three games. He reached the mark in his 85th game with the Maroon & Gold.
- Groen registered his 12th multi-hit game and third three-hit showing of the year. His ninth inning double was his team-leading 12th double of the season.
- Pasquale tallied his fourth double in the last five games and 24th RBI on the year.
- Senior Cooper Haseley pitched a scoreless inning and a third of relief.
- Junior Joey Kasper fanned two batters in a hitless inning and two thirds.
- Junior Eric Gialloreto made his team-leading 29th appearance out of the bullpen, grabbing the final two outs in the eighth inning.
