CHESNUT HILL, MA - The Iona University volleyball team opened its 2024 campaign with a three-set loss to Eastern Kentucky in the opening contest of the 2024 Boston College Invitational. The Colonels topped the Gaels 25-20, 25-11, and 25-13 in a match that featured the Maroon & Gold debut of six new performers.
IONA PERFORMERS
- Graduate transfer Grace Ehler led Iona with eight kills in her first match with the Gaels. The Gonzaga transfer posted an ace and two blocks as the team's lone double-digit point scorer.
- Senior Kenzie Wiggins had five kills and three digs and was 18-for-19 on serve receptions.
- Graduate Jen Soto had four kills and a block.
- Rookies Taylor Timko and Katherine Ferng combined for five blocks.
- Junior libero Rose Porter posted a team-leading 12 digs while sophomore Ava DeGuzman recorded 11.
THE OPPONENT
- Eastern Kentucky's Kambree Lucas led her squad with 11 kills.
- Sarah Mitchell posted 12.5 points with eight kills, four aces and a block.
- Josie Schmitendorf had 21 digs.
UP NEXT
Iona completes action in Boston tomorrow when they face the Big XII's Texas Tech at 2 p.m. and host and ACC-member Boston College at 5 p.m. The Gaels and Eagles matchup can be seen live on the ACC Network.
