CHESTNUT HILL, MA - The Iona University volleyball team dropped two three-set matches to complete action at the 2024 Boston College Invitational held at Connell Recreation Center. The Gaels fell to the Big 12's Texas Tech in the opener and the host Eagles in the night cap. Graduate
Jen Soto was named to the All-Tournament team for her performance in the team's three matches.
MATCH ONE VS. TEXAS TECH
The Red Raiders topped the Gaels, 25-20, 25-9, 25-13 in the middle match of the day.
IONA PERFORMERS
- Senior Kenzie Wiggins led the Gaels with 10 kills and eight digs while recording two assists.
- Rookie Mija Jegers posted five kills and three blocks and as 11-for-11 on serve receptions.
- Freshman setter Jaylyn Simon posted 10 assists and seven digs.
THE OPPONENT
- Simone Overbeck recorded 10 kills.
- Aliyah McDonald led with 11.5 points with five kills and nine blocks.
- Libero Maddie Correa had 18 digs.
MATCH TWO VS. BOSTON COLLEGE
In Iona's strongest effort of the weekend, the host Eagles took the match 25-14, 25-16 and 25-20.
IONA PERFORMERS
- A trio of Gaels posted six kills to lead the way including Soto, Jegers and rookie Kari Smith.
- Jegers added an ace and a block for a team-high 7.5 points along with nine digs.
- Smith also posted an ace.
- Senior setter Jordan Ader recorded her first collegiate double-double with career-highs in assists (26) and digs (11).
- Wiggins and rookie Katherine Ferng posted five kills in the defeat.
THE OPPONENT
- Audrey Ross had 13 kills to lead the home team.
- Anna Herrington recorded seven kills and seven blocks.
- Brooklyn Yelland posted 10 digs.
UP NEXT
The Gaels travel to Albany for a second weekend UAlbany Invitational where they will take on the host Great Danes along with Fairleigh Dickinson and Central Michigan next Friday and Saturday.
