ALBANY, NY - The Iona University volleyball team opened the 2024 UAlbany Invitational with a three set loss to the host Great Danes. The Gaels fell 25-17, 25-19, 25-17. Rookie
Mija Jegers led the way with her first collegiate double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs.
IONA PERFORMERS
- Jegers hit .250 with 13 kills on 32 attempts. With 12 digs, she reached double-digits in both statistics for the first time as a Gael.
- Senior Kenzie Wiggins added six kills, an ace, and a block.
- Rookie setter Jaylyn Simon posted a season-best 22 assists, adding eight digs and three kills.
- Sophomore libero Ava DeGuzman recorded 12 digs.
THE OPPONENT
- Shynelle Woroniuk led with 10 kills while teammate Anna Myhal had nine.
- Setter Maria Olga Siapani had 32 assists and eight digs.
- Libero Sthefany Carvalho recorded 24 digs.
TEAM STATS
- The Gaels hit .144 for the match, a season-best through four games.
- Iona also had 33 assists and 34 kills, also season-bests.
- The Maroon & Gold also had a high with 50 digs.
