NEW ROCHELLE, NY - A strong offensive second half for the Iona University men's basketball team sparked an 82-61 win over Canisius in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at the Hynes Center. Adam Njie Jr. just missed double-double as Reaves poured in a game-high 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds while Njie posted 14 points dished out nine assists in the win.
THE RUNDOWN
Iona held the lead for nearly 16 minutes and trailed for just 72 seconds in the first half. Canisius took its final lead of the game with 7:40 to play at 24-22. The Gaels finished the half with 13 of the final 17 points to lead 35-28 at the break.

The Griffs pulled within one less than three minutes in following six straight points to make the score 38-37 with 17:04 to play. The Maroon & Gold answered with a decisive 20-1 run over a 5:50 second span, scoring 13 straight points to before Canisius could answer. The Gaels shot 8-for-10 and made all four three point attempts and held Canisius to a 0-for-6 effort during the spurt. The run put Iona ahead 58-38 with 11:12 left. The Griffs scored eight of the next 10 points to get within 14, but it was as close as they would get. The Gaels' largest lead was 24 points with just under four minutes remaining.
IONA PERFORMERS
- Reaves exploded for 25 points on 12-of-20 shooting from the field, 11-for-15 from inside the arc. He was one rebound shy of a second-straight double-double adding an assist and a steal.
- Njie Jr. was 7-for-10 from the field, accounting for his 14 points. He had a career-best nine assists to go along with six rebounds, two steals and a block.
- Junior Luke Jungers had a season-best 14 points, connecting on 4-of-7 long distance attempts. He recorded back-to-back double-digit point efforts for the first time since his rookie season at Omaha. He also added two assists and a steal.
- Junior Christian Winborne scored all nine of his points in the second half with three trifectas. He added three rebounds, two assists and a steal.
- Freshman Justin Menard added seven points, two rebounds and two assists.
- Senior Clarence Rupert did not score, but recorded six rebounds, four assists and a steal.
- THE OPPONENT
- Tana Kopa scored 20 points for Canisius with the help of six three pointers.
- Jasman Sangha posted 14 points and seven rebounds.
- Iona held Paul McMillan IV - the MAAC's leading scorer at nearly 20 points per game - to 12 points on 5-of-15 shooting.
TEAM STATS
- Iona out shot Canisius 53.2%-38.9% for the game with the help of the strong second half effort.
- The Gaels connected on a season-best 11 three pointers, their second double-digit output of the year.
- Iona held a 35-30 edge on the glass but trailed 10-9 on the offensive end.
- The Maroon & Gold dished out a season-high 25 assists while committing a season-low eight turnovers. The Griffs had 13 assists and 14 giveaways.
