Iona Water Polo Drops Road Contest To Mount St. Mary's

EMMITSBURG, MD — The Iona men's water polo team fell 15–10 to Mount St. Mary's on Friday evening at the Mount's ARCC Pool.

The Gaels kept things close early, trailing 6-4 after the first quarter, but the Mount outscored Iona 4–1 in the second period to take a 10-5 lead into halftime. Iona battled to stay within reach in the second half, matching Mount St. Mary's goal-for-goal in the final two quarters, but couldn't overcome the deficit.

Iona's offense was paced by Pavle Musikic and Matthew Mischlich, who each tallied three goals. Hugh Coyle, Rastko Jevdjovic, Samson Williams, and Jayden Arana each added one goal for the Gaels. In net, Aleksander Slakovic anchored the defense with 14 saves on 35 shots while also adding two steals. 

The Gaels totaled 33 shots in the contest, converting 4-of-14 power play opportunities and going a perfect 2-for-2 on penalty shots. Musikic led the Maroon & Gold with five drawn exclusions.
 
The Gaels return to action tomorrow, Saturday, at 9 a.m., when they travel to Navy. The game can be streamed on Navy Athletics YouTube channel.
