NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Iona University Director of Athletics
Matthew Glovaski named
Katia Bogomolova as the new head coach for the men's and women's tennis programs. Bogomolova joins the Gaels after serving as assistant women's tennis coach for the last five years at Fordham University, where she played a pivotal role in guiding the Rams to their first Atlantic 10 Championship in 2023.
"Bringing Katia to Iona is a major step in re-establishing tennis as a varsity program on our campus," said Glovaski. "Her impressive track record of player development, leadership, and community engagement aligns perfectly with our vision. We are confident she will set a strong foundation for sustained success for both the men's and women's teams."
"I am thrilled to lead the revitalization of tennis at Iona University," Bogomolova said. "Having followed the growth of Iona over the years, I am eager to build a program that develops student-athletes both on and off the court. Tennis has a rich tradition here, and I look forward to contributing to the next chapter of Gaels athletics."
Bogomolova carries more than 20 years of coaching experience at both the college and community levels. At Fordham, she was instrumental in the women's team reaching the Atlantic 10 Championship finals in 2022 and capturing the title in 2023, the first in program history. Beyond the court, she contributed to recruiting, alumni engagement, fundraising initiatives, and managed social media for the program.
In addition to her collegiate coaching experience, Bogomolova has served as head pro and vice president of the board at the Rochelle Heights Tennis Club since 2019, where she oversaw adult and junior programs, organized tournaments, and managed staff. She has also coached at Lifetime Fitness and the New York Athletic Club, developing players across all ages and skill levels.
A former Division I player at the University of Miami, Bogomolova helped lead the Hurricanes to two Big East Championships while playing at the top singles and doubles positions. She ranked among the top 100 in singles and top 50 in doubles nationally and began her collegiate career at the age of sixteen. Prior to college, she led Sunset High School to two state championships, capturing both singles and doubles titles, and held top national rankings in junior competition in both the U.S. and Mexico.
Bogomolova is a USPTA and PTR certified coach, fluent in English, Russian, and Spanish, and remains actively involved in mentoring alumni and current players.
Iona University's tennis programs will return to Division I competition for the first time since 2003, with Bogomolova leading the charge. Her focus on building strong team culture, emphasizing academic achievement, and developing competitive excellence will be key as the Gaels prepare for their first season in 2026-27.
