Iona Swim & Dive Sweep Saint Peter's

Diver Riccio Qualifies for NCAA Regional Championships

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - In the final dual meet of the semester, the Iona University Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Team posted a pair of convincing victories over MAAC rival St. Peter's University at the Hynes Pool.

The Iona women ran their season record to 7-1 with a 184-102 score, touching first in 11 of the 16 events. The Iona men raised their mark to 4-3 with a 191-103 score, equaling the women's tally of 11 of 16 race wins.

Leading the charge for the Iona women was freshmen Paige Fiorino, who touched first in the 50 and 100-Free with respective times of 25.00 and 54.85. Junior diver, Emma Todd, claimed the top spot on both the 1 and 3-meter Springboard events with tots of 227.02 and 220.80. Other events winners on the women's side included Hailey Baker (100-Breaststroke); Francesca Fields 50-Breaststroke); Anabel Huffstutler (400-IM); Victoria Mordaunt (50-Butterfly); and, Raegan O'Brien (200-Free).

The Iona men got double wins from members, highlighted by Senior Diver Dylan Riccio's school record and NCAA Zone Championship qualifying score of 337.95 and the 3-Meter Springboard. Dylan is the first Iona male diver to ever qualify for an NCAA Regional event. Riccio also took the 1-Meter event 284.93. Backing up Riccio was Sophomore Joel Picard, returning from injury and taking second on both boards. "The development of Joel, Emma and second year diver Neil Senhouse and Dylan has been awesome. I see them push each other every day and Coach Maureen Arnold has done a great job challenging them," commented Head Coach Nick Cavataro.

The other double winners on the men's side included Max Buchen who touched first in the 50-Breast (26.26) and 100-IM (52.69). Kieran Egan claimed the top spot in the 100-Back (50.83) and 100-Free (47.32). and, Nate Wales won the 50-Free (21.85) and 50-Back (25.08).  Freshmen Wyatt Julian added a win in the 50-Fly (23.77).
