RIVERDALE, NY — The Iona University men's soccer team concluded the 2025 regular season Wednesday evening with a 2-1 victory over rival, Manhattan at Gaelic Park. The Gaels have won six straight over the Jaspers dating back to 2022 season.
Iona wraps up the regular season with an 8-3-5 overall record and a 6-1-3 mark in league play, securing the three seed in the 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship field.

Calle Sjoberg led the Gaels with a multi-point evening, tallying an assist on the opening goal and then netting the game winner in the second half. Sophomore
Sebastian Curti opened the scoring with his first collegiate goal. Graduate student
Aitor Jorde recorded his fourth goal of the season.

GAME SUMMARY
Iona dictated the tempo from the opening kick-off working methodically in the attacking third with a 4-0 margin on shots through the first 30 minutes of play.
The Gaels broke open the scoring in the 32
nd minute as Sjoberg collected a pass near midfield. He dribbled all the way to the 18-yard box and sent a pass out left to Roman Jr. who one-timed a centering cross to a charging Curti to bury home the chip in shot for the 1-0 lead.
Manhattan was held to just one-shot by the Maroon & Gold in the first half, making its first shot attempt in the 38
th minute.
Iona continued to push the pace out of the intermission a 7-3 margin for shot attempts including three on goal that were denied by Manhattan's Ludvig Malberg. The Gaels eventually cracked the Jaspers defense in the 65
th minute. Morandi made from 20-yards out to Sjoberg who was cutting towards the center. The duo traded another give and go pass with Morandi teeing up Sjoberg to drill the one-timer from 16-yards out for the 2-0 advantage.
Manhattan looked to answer immediately with the team's first shot on goal 55 seconds later, but Georgiou is there to make the save. The Jaspers got on the scoreboard in the 76
th minute on a long-range strike from Jason Araujo to bring the deficit down to one.
The Gaels capped the scoring in the 81
st minute as Mancheno lifted a long cross into the box from the right side. He found Jorde at the doorstep to bury the shot into the lower left corner to bring the final score to 3-1.

- Iona recorded a season-high 22 shots and 12 shots on goal and Manhattan made 10 shot attempts and four shots on goal.
- The Gaels made eight corner kick attempts while the Jaspers recorded three corners.
- 19 fouls were called between the two sides and five yellow cards handed out, three to Manhattan and two to Iona.
