NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Iona University men's basketball graduate student
CJ Anthony has been named to the Lou Henson Award Early Season Watch List, as announced by CollegeInsider.com. Anthony is one of two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference players selected among the 50 student-athletes on the early season list, joining Quinnipiac's Amarri Monroe.
The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the top player in Division I men's basketball among mid-major programs. The award honors the late Lou Henson, a Hall of Fame head coach who amassed 775 career victories during his tenure at Illinois and New Mexico State.
Anthony, a graduate transfer from the University of Cincinnati, has emerged as one of the most productive guards in mid-major basketball during the opening stretch of the season. The graduate student leads the Gaels in scoring (16.3 points per game) and assists (5.8 per game), the latter also leading the MAAC, while adding 3.1 rebounds and 1.8 steals per contest. He ranks first on the team in scoring, assists, and assist-to-turnover ratio, owns a 2.2 assist-to-turnover ratio, and ranks second among Gaels in steals and three-point field goals made, serving as the primary catalyst for Iona's offense.
The Lou Henson Award watch list is updated periodically throughout the season, with finalists announced in March. The 2026 Lou Henson Award will be presented in Indianapolis, Indiana, site of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship.
