NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Iona University men's basketball team trailed for just 18 seconds in a 65-60 win over Manhattan in front of a near-sold out crowd in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the Hynes Center on a nationally televised audience on ESPNU. The Gaels withstood a second half charge from the Jaspers, seeing an 18-point lead trimmed to three points with under a minute remaining in their 12th win in the last 13 games in New Rochelle over their archrival.
THE RUNDOWN
Iona built its first double-digit advantage less than seven minutes into the contest as sophomore
Comeh Emuobor's corner three-pointer gave his team an 18-8 advantage at 13:16. Emuobor scored 12 of the Gaels first 18 points to gain the early lead. Junior
Kernan Bundy put the Maroon & Gold ahead by its largest margin, with a fast break bucket off a nice feed from senior
Dejour Reaves to make it 35-18 at 3:42. Manhattan recorded a free throw at 2:06 and Iona took a 35-19 advantage into the break.

Iona's largest lead came on its first possession of the second half with a Reaves step back in the lane to put the home team ahead by 18 early. An 11-0 run by Manhattan cut the margin to seven with 15:50 to play. The Gaels regained a double digit advantage three and a half minutes later on rookie
Justin Menard's bucket at 12:25. Manhattan answered with seven straight to make the score 43-39 just over a minute later. The game stayed within two possessions for the next three minutes before Reaves' three pointer from the top of the key gave Iona a 50-41 advantage at the under eight media timeout. Yaphet Moundi's strong drive to the basket. A pair of free throws by Moundi at 3:05 put the Gaels ahead 61-51. Manhattan scored six straight to cut it to four, punctuated by a four-point play by Devin Dinkins with 1:23 left. After a couple of defensive stops either way, the Jaspers got within three after a 1-for-2 trip to the line. Moundi was fouled on the missed second attempt and hit two free throws to make it a fie point game with under 20 seconds to play. After a pair of Manhattan free throws, junior
Luke Jungers was fouled and hit two of his own to make the final margin. As the visitors tried on their next turn down to keep the game going, Moundi blocked a shot, and Bundy grabbed the rebound to dribble out time in the five-point Gaels' win.
IONA PERFORMERS
- Reaves led with 18 points while adding 11 rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block. He shot 8-for-17 from the field in his second double-double of the season with a career-best rebounding total.
- Emuobor had career-best 12 points, all coming in the first seven minutes of the game. he added five rebounds and two assists in his third start of the year.
- Moundi posted 12-point, 14-rebound effort, his team-leading fourth double-double of the season. He posted two assists and two blocks in the win.
- Jungers continued his solid play posting 11 points with three rebounds, two steals and two blocks. It was his second straight 2+ steal/2+ block effort.
- Senior Clarence Rupert had six points, six rebounds, three assists, two assists and a block in supporting effort.
- Bundy posted six boards and four assists and was a team-leading +14 in his 25 minutes on the floor.
THE OPPONENT
- Devin Dinkins led the Jaspers with 18 points, posting two assists and two steals.
- Masiah Gilyard had 13 points and nine boards.
- Wesley Robinson posted nine points and a team-leading 10 rebounds.
TEAM STATISTICS
- Iona out shot Manhattan 38.5%-30.2% for the game.
- The Gaels also owned a 52-40 rebounding advantage, posting 20 offensive rebounds. They held a 15-10 advantage on second chance points.
- Iona had 18 assists and 14 turnovers while Manhattan posted 11 assists, 10 giveaways and led 15-11 on points off turnovers.
