JAMAICA, NY — The Iona University softball team returned to action on Wednesday afternoon, falling to St. John's, 6-1. The Red Storm out hit the Gaels, 10-2 to take the non-conference tilt at Red Storm Field.
Junior
Hailey Guerrero recorded her sixth home run of the season with a solo shot in the sixth inning. Senior
Brianna Bailey picked up the other Iona hit in the fourth inning.
GAME SUMMARY
The Red Storm broke open the scoring in the bottom of the first inning courtesy of a two-out three-run home run for the early lead. St John's added to its tally with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third inning.
Iona was held to just one base runner through the first three innings. The Gaels got going in the fourth as Bailey led off the inning with a single to left field. After a strikeout, junior
Brooke Acker was hit by a pitch. First-year Sara Piña followed with a walk to load the bases. St. John's escaped trouble with a strikeout and groundout to end the inning.
The Red Storm tacked on two more runs with a sacrifice fly in the fifth and a solo home run in the sixth inning.
Guerrero got Iona on the scoreboard for the final run of the contest with a one-out solo shot to left centerfield to bring the final score to 6-1.

Nadia Andarowski pitched the first three frames for the Maroon & Gold. Sophomore
Allison Hoppe pitched an inning and a third of relief. Senior
Samantha Rieb logged the final inning and two thirds for the Gaels.
