LOUDONVILLE, NY –  The Iona University men's lacrosse team took on Siena in Loudonville, New York on Saturday afternoon in their first away matchup in conference play. In a strong offensive showing, nine different Iona players registered at least one point, with
netting a career-first goal. Despite a total of seven goals in the last stanza from the Maroon & Gold, a season high for scoring in a singular quarter, the Gaels fell to Siena by a score of 18-12. Â
THE Rundown
The Saints took an early lead, finding the net on their opening possession. The Gaels responded less than two minutes later, with
Jack Martinez flipping the ball to
Cullen Lawry who slotted home a shot in the bottom right corner of the Siena net.
Denny Piekutowski stood tall in the first stanza, making half a dozen stops in goal, but the Hosts would net three more goals sending the Gaels out of the initial quarter down 4-1. Â
Iona would open the second quarter scoring, with at least five in Maroon & Gold touching the ball in quick succession on the way to a
Jimmy Kennedy man-up goal. Siena responded with five unanswered points before Kennedy and Lawry both netted one goal a piece within sixty seconds for the Gaels midway through the quarter. Three more from the Saints before the end of the Half would put the Gaels down 12-4.Â
The Gaels once again found the opening point in the quarter, with Martinez blowing by a defender near midfield then netting a solo goal. Â The Iona defense spearheaded by substitute keeper
Noah Perea in the 3rd held strong, but still Siena found three goals, ending the quarter 15-5.Â
Siena would open the fourth quarter scoring before
Vincenzo Gramaglia snagged his first goal in Maroon & Gold directly from the faceoff X to the Siena net.
Jimmy Kennedy would later complete his hat-trick of goals off of
Cullen Lawry's second assist and fourth point of the night. The hosts would find another goal before the Maroon & Gold unleashed five unanswered goals scored by five different players late in the quarter.

Kyle Hardie, and
Matthew Dyszkiewicz all combined in the scoring spree to lift the Gaels to seven goals in the quarter, their highest total in a singular stanza this season. Â
The Hosts placed one more goal in the net before the final whistle, as the Gaels exited Loudonville with a 18-12 defeat. Â
IONA PERFORMERS
- Jimmy Kennedy tallied his career-first hat-trick. The captain finished with three goals, landing four of his five shots on goal.Â
- Cullen Lawry led the Gaels with four points in the afternoon, counting a pair of assists and a pair of goals. The Gaels' leading goalscorer also counted two ground balls and caused one turnover. Â
- Jack Martinez was the third Iona player to tally three or more points, assisting a career-high two goals and tying his career high of two goals while scooping up two ground balls. Â
- Francesco Raso tallied two points off of a one goal, one assist outing. Â
- Vincent Pititto handed out two assists, tying a career high. Â
- Vincenzo Gramaglia scored his first career goal with a solo effort straight from the faceoff X.Â
- Gary Shivell led the Iona defense with a pair of caused turnovers and three ground balls. Â
THE OPPONENT
- Pratt Reynolds led all players with five goals, while Travis Fry had a game-high three assists. Â
