STONY BROOK, NY — The Iona University Baseball team was outmatched at Stony Brook Tuesday afternoon. The Gaels were able to get on the board first, but could not keep up offensively with the Seawolves as they produced runs in six out of eight innings at bat. Graduate student

Anthony Febo threw out two runners attempting to steal today which has been a weaker point for the Gaels.
It was a pitching committee for Iona today as eight pitchers were need to get through the game. Freshman
Danny Onorato started the game for Iona, his second start of the year, but struggled with control walking three hitters.
Game Summary
The Gaels started off with a lead off single by junior Damian Rodriguez, but he would get thrown out trying to steal second. Sophomore Jc Frias would draw a walk, adding to his team lead of 23. He would score when Kemp roped a double to right field. Onorato would get through the first inning only allowing a walk.
The second inning saw the Gaels strand a lead off runner and give up three runs in the bottom half of the frame. Two walks, two singles, and a hit by pitch would help give Stony Brook a 3-1 lead. Iona would get sat down 1-2-3 in the top of the third inning, while the Seawolves would hit a lead off homer, before stringing together some base runners and scoring one more on a single to take a 5-1 lead.
The Maroon & Gold would get a run back after Kemp lead off with a triple and would score on a single from junior Anthony Zollo. Stony Brook would get that run back in the bottom half on a single down the line, but junior Sean Davis would strand two runners on base. Senior Ronald Rockey would get the fifth inning and load the bases. He would work his way out of the inning only allowing a run, while ending the inning on a swinging strikeout. Graduate student Joseph Bekios would pitch a strong bottom of the sixth with a strikeout and only gave up one base runner.
Iona would score their third and final run in the top of the seventh when graduate student Jayson Gonzalez crushed a home run to left field, his first of the season. Sophomore Bruce Wadiak would take over for Bekios in the seventh and in his first outing of the year, he struggled with walks, but was able to get two outs until senior Carl Kuentzel would enter for him. Kuentzel would walk his first batter which resulted in a run, but ended the inning on a ground out.
Senior Robert Lasbury would enter for his first outing in a Gaels uniform for the eighth inning and gave up a lead off home run, but would finish the inning strong.
Iona would fall 10-3 and Onorato was handed his second loss of the season. As for the Seawolves, Panariell earned his second win of the year.
