NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Iona University softball team dropped the final game of the weekend series against Siena, 3-0 on Sunday afternoon. The Gaels were outhit 7-2 by the Saints in the finale at Donald E. Walsh Field.
Junior

Caelin Kosvitch recorded her first career hit with a single in the seventh inning for the Gaels.
GAME SUMMARY
Siena broke open the scoring in the second inning on a one-out RBI double down the left field line. Iona's offense only generated two base runners in the first four innings as Siena's
Alissa Eimont picked up four strikeouts early and held the Gaels hitless.
The Gaels threatened in the bottom of the fifth as freshman
Sara Piña picked up a leadoff walk. Sophomore
Leah Palmer then came on to pinch run and advanced all the way to third on back-to-back groundouts. Juniors
Alivia Lichtner and
Hannah Werth followed with a hit by pitch and an eight-pitch walk to load the bases. Siena escaped the inning with a line out to second base.
Acker picked up Iona's first hit of the game in the sixth inning with a single to left field, but Iona was retired in order on the next two batters.
The Saints added two insurance runs on an RBI triple and RBI single on back-to-back at bats with one out in the seventh inning. Iona's defense prevented further runs from crossing the plate as Werth, junior
Brianna Fischer and Acker executed a perfect relay to throw out a runner at the dish.
Iona looked to rally in the seventh taking advantage of a fielding error and a base knock from the pinch hitter, Kosvitch put two runners on with no outs. A fielder's choice by the Saints nailed the lead runner at third base. Siena sealed the game on a fly out to left field for out number two and a diving catch in foul territory for the final out for the 3-0 win.
