BETHLEHEM, PA - The Iona women's lacrosse team battled both the rain and the mountain Hawks of Lehigh along with the rain, falling to a score of 12-4. The Gaels fall to 0-5 on the season.

The game remained scoreless for the first eight minutes as both teams adjusted to playing through the onslaught of rain. Lehigh did find the back of the net first but Iona's own Kira Varada and freshman Haley Lauer scored a goal each to close out the opening quarter. 

Lehigh started off the second quarter hot with three goals, Varada notched her second of the game and seventh of the year. The Mt. Hawks scored one more to close out the first half with a 5-3 lead. 

Iona scored one goal from Calen Norton in the second half as Lehigh scored seven. Lauren Sweeney got the start making four saves in 37 minutes, Sophomore Ava Giugliano played the other 22 minutes making four saves and allowing five goals. Norton had a team and game high with three caused turnover and six draw controls. 

Iona will travel to Central Connecticut on Sunday Mar. 9, opening drawn is scheduled for 1 pm. Will be available to stream on NEC Front Row.
