RIVERDALE, NY - The Iona women's lacrosse program sits at the top of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference after thier fifth straight MAAC win over Manhattan, 10-8. Sophomore Calen Norton came to play scoring half of the Iona goals and Ava Giugliano earned her fifth straight win. 

In a low scoring affair the Gaels took a 2-1 lead after the first quarter, a lead they would not surrender the rest of the game, Manhattan outscored the Gaels 4-2 in the final quarter, but the Maroon & Gold defense along with the sophomore goal keeper stepped up causing 13 total turnovers. 

Norton scored five goals on fives shots, Kacie Scarduzio added four points with two goals and two assists. Kira Varada notched two goals and one assist, fellow senior Kate Krueger netted the remaining Iona goal. Lindsey Grove assisted on three goals for a team and game high. Iona out shot Manhattan 33-26 with 19 shots on goal. Gaels got out worked on draw controls, 13-9 with Norton, Varada, and Maliya Haddock with two each. 

In net Giugliano made nine big saves and allowed less than 10 goals for the third straight game. Iona picked up 23 ground balls, six different Gaels had multiple ground balls. Varada had a team high with six. Varada also had a team high with three caused turnovers. Norton, Carly Linthicum, and Alyssa Castellano recorded two each. 

Iona gets back to a .500 overall record and improve to 5-0 in MAAC play, Gaels will host Siena on Saturday scheduled for a 2 pm start. Iona will be celebrating nine seniors before the game.
