HARRISONBURG, VA — The Iona University men's soccer team closed out the non-conference portion of the 2025 schedule with a 2-0 setback at James Madison on Tuesday evening. The Dukes jumped out to an early lead before a second half tally to close the matchup at Sentra Park and snap the Gaels' two-game winning streak.
GAME SUMMARY
A slow methodical start in the non-conference finale for both sides with just one shot each in the first 20 minutes of action. Graduate student
Yannik Vogel fired the first shot on goal in the 17
th minute from 35-yards out that was saved by Erik Jaspers.
Iona drew its lone corner kick of the opening half in the 29
th minute, junior
Florian Schutt leaped through the scrum and placed a header on the ball but it sailed just wide right of the post.
James Madison took the lead in the 36
th minute on a set play off a corner kick from the left side by Manuel Lolas. The deep cross went towards the far post and was headed home by Jonas Griesbauer to give the Dukes a 1-0 advantage.
The home team held a 6-3 advantage on shots for the first half and held a 4-1 margin on corner kick attempts.

Chris Morandi had a look from the left side in the 59
th minute for the Gaels but sailed just right of the goal.
As rainy conditions picked up, the Dukes capped the scoring in the 77
th minute as Diego Ossa buried a shot through traffic from eight yards out to bring the final to 2-0. Iona had one last look on goal in the 86
th minute as a shot from rookie
Andrey Mora Bravo was swallowed up by Jaspers.

- James Madison held a 11-5 advantage on shots and a slight 4-3 favor for shots on goal.
- The Dukes led 7-2 on corner kicks, Iona tied its season low for corner kick attempts.
