EASTON, PA — The Iona University women's soccer team embarked on its three-game road swing Thursday evening with a 5-0 defeat at Lafayette in non-conference action at Gummeson Grounds.
GAME SUMMARY
Lafayette pushed the intensity out of the gate four shots in the first 12 minutes of action. Senior
Mia DiPronio fired the first two of Iona's first half shot attempts in the 14
th minute on a free kick chance from 20-yards out that was denied by Leopards keeper Catherine Apker.
Junior
Isabella DeGiovanni making her first career start for the Maroon & Gold, stopped four shots in the first 30 minutes of action. The Leopards broke through in the 31
st minute as the ball rebounded off a blocked shot to set up a cross and chip shot right at the doorstep for the 1-0 advantage.
Lafayette continued to attack in the final minutes of the opening half, but DeGiovanni was there to make two more saves for Iona.
The second half momentum was all in favor of the home team as the Leopards fired 14 shot attempts and netted goals in the 52
nd, 60
th, 65
th and 86
th minute to seal the win in the first meeting between the two squads in three seasons.
DeGiovanni faced 15 shot attempts on goal and registered a career-high 10 saves for the Gaels. DiPronio led the team with two shot attempts. Junior

Dolene Smith recorded shot attempts in the second half.

- Lafayette held a 28-4 margin on shots for the game and a 15-2 advantage for shots on goal.
- The Leopards attempted seven corner kicks while Iona was held to just three first-half corner attempts.
