NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The Iona University men's lacrosse team fell to Lehigh, 16-7, in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon at Mazzella Field. The Mountain Hawks used a four-goal stretch in the opening half and a decisive six-goal run after halftime to pull away. Sophomore
Cullen Lawry paced the Maroon & Gold with four goals and an assist, while rookie
Carson Turissini added a goal and a helper.
THE RUNDOWN
Lehigh set the tone early, scoring the first two goals within the opening six-plus minutes. Iona responded with two of the next three, as rookie
Franco Caputo opened the scoring at 6:49 before Lawry brought the hosts within one with 5:14 remaining. The visitors closed the quarter with three straight goals, including two on the man-up, to take a 6-2 lead after one.

The teams traded goals in the second quarter. Lawry accounted for both tallies for the Gaels, finding the net at 7:53 and again in the final 18 seconds as the deficit remained four at the break.

That margin held midway through the third following sophomore
Jimmy Kennedy's man-up goal. Lehigh answered with a six-goal surge beginning at the 7:10 mark, building a 15-5 advantage with just under 12 minutes to play. The Gaels closed the contest by scoring two of the final three, as Turissini struck with 8:19 remaining and Lawry capped his four-goal day in the final 90 seconds.
IONA PERFORMERS
- Lawry finished with 11 shot attempts, placing six on goal, and continues to lead the squad with five goals through three games.
- Turissini recorded his fourth goal of the season and added an assist, sitting one point behind the team leader.
- Kennedy converted on the man-up for his third goal of the year, while Caputo added his second of the season.
- Cooper Metz, Matthew Dyszkiewicz, and Cale Stielau each chipped in with an assist.
- Sophomore Denny Piekutowski turned aside 14 shots in goal.
THE OPPONENT
- Luke Breslin led all players with four goals and seven assists in a dominant offensive performance.
- Finn Morgan added four goals and an assist, while Andrew Kelly contributed two goals and three helpers.
- Grant Rodny rounded out the multiple-point efforts with a two-goal outing.
- Kasey Heath made seven saves while allowing five goals before giving way to Bryce Pang, who recorded two stops on four shots faced.
TEAM STATS
- Lehigh held a 44-35 edge in shots and controlled the ground ball battle by a 41-19 margin.
- The Mountain Hawks committed 25 turnovers, while Iona finished with 22.
- Faceoffs favored the visitors, 17-10.
