Iona Swim & Dive Men win Relay! O’Brien Takes Backstroke Gold!

GENEVA, OH - Day 3 of the 2026 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships started and ended with a bang for the Iona Swimming and Diving Team. Sophomore Raegan O'Brien took gold in the 100-Backstroke at 55.41, lowering her own school record by .13. Full results are at https://swimmeetresults.tech/MAAC-2026/

The Iona men's quartet of backstroker Kieran Egan (47.87), breaststroker Max Buchen (54.20), butterflyer Noah Giunta (47.99), and freestyler Nate Wales (43.98) combined for a 3:14.04 clocking in the 400-yard Medley Relay, two seconds ahead of Fairfield to close the session.

The win moved the men to fourth place in the team race with 651.83 points. Fairfield (860.83), Marist (792), and Niagara (767.33) hold the top three spots. The odd point totals came as a result of a three-way tie in the men's 100-Backstroke race.

The Iona women's 400-Medley had a big effort, with O'Brien (55.91), Hailey Baker (1:05.02), Victoria Mordaunt (55.53), and Mary Grace Waring (51.83) combining for fourth place at 3:48.29.

The women jumped up two spots to fifth place with 485 points. Marist (909.5), Fairfield (875.5), Niagara (738), and Sacred Heart (678) hold the top four positions.

In other individual championship events, Mordaunt (59.04) and Julia Hulse (59.20) backed up O'Brien in the 100-Back, placing fifteenth and twenty-third, respectively. The men's race saw Wales (48.35), Egan (48.42), Wyatt Julian (49.19), and Owen Znachowski (50.60) take third, fourth, and seventeenth, respectively.

The 100-yard Butterfly had Mordaunt (55.46), Waring (57.79), and Erin McKinney (58.23) take third, fifteenth, and twenty-second, respectively.

The men's 100-Butterfly saw Wyatt Julian (49.13), Giunta (48.77), Dylan Malave (50.14), Harry Summers (50.29), and James Gonzalez (50.31) post respective sixth-, ninth-, fifteenth-, twenty-first-, and twenty-second-place efforts.

The 400-yard Individual Medley had Sydney Cronin (4:30.45) and Anabel Huffstutler (4:34.39) place fifth and fourteenth. Declan McGlynn was the lone man in the race for Iona, ending up twenty-third at 4:08.88.

The women's 200-Freestyle had Kate Kennedy finish twenty-third at 1:57.16. The men's race saw junior Harry Platt take out the race in aggressive style, leading through seven lengths before falling short by .26 and taking silver at 1:37.41. Elijah Decasseres (1:40.36), Matt Woyksnar (1:42.40), and Robert Heim (1:42.99) placed twelfth, nineteenth, and twentieth, respectively.

The women's 100-Breaststroke was the biggest scoring event for the Iona women on the day, with Hailey Baker (1:05.04), Francesca Fields (1:05.80), and Brennyn Veit (1:05.81) placing seventh, tenth, and eleventh, respectively. The men's edition saw Buchen go 54.60, Nick Patino go 56.29, and Jonathan Rielly post a 58.37 clocking for sixth, eleventh, and twenty-first placings.

The women's 3-meter diving had Emma Todd take twenty-second at 127.95 points.

The meet concludes Saturday with men's 1-meter diving, the 1650-Free, 200-Backstroke, 100-Freestyle, 200-Breaststroke, and 200-Butterfly events.
