NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The Iona University men's lacrosse team fell to Bucknell, 16-8, in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon at Mazzella Field. The Bison used a decisive seven-goal third quarter to seize control. Freshman

THE RUNDOWN
Bucknell struck first with three goals in the opening quarter before the Gaels responded early in the second. Turissini set up the first tally, finding sophomore
Jack Martinez for a quick finish at 13:13. Lawry followed with an unassisted marker at 9:27 to trim the deficit to 3-2.

The visitors answered with two straight goals to extend the margin to 5-2 with 4:37 remaining in the half. Martinez and Turissini connected again late in the period, cutting the deficit to 5-3 at the break.

Bucknell took control in the third, opening the half with six consecutive goals to build an 11-3 advantage. Sophomore
Matthew Dyszkiewicz recorded his second goal of the season with 3:11 left in the quarter, but the Bison added one more and led 12-4 heading into the final frame.

Iona found momentum in the fourth with four goals. Lawry, Dyszkiewicz, Turissini and sophomore
Kyle Hardie each scored as the Maroon and Gold closed out the contest.
IONA PERFORMERS
- Turissini finished with a goal and three assists to lead the attack.
- Lawry recorded two goals and one assist, firing a team-high nine shots with six on target. He and the rookie attacker share the team lead with 11 points through five games.
- Martinez and Dyszkiewicz each scored twice, while Hardie added a goal and an assist.
- Martinez collected four ground balls, and faceoff specialist Cole Gibstein secured five.
- Sophomores Tochi Agwamba and Kevin Sheehy each caused two turnovers.
- Sophomore Denny Piekutowski made eight saves over the first 31-plus minutes, and classmate Sal Caputo turned aside six in relief.
THE OPPONENT
- Michael Meyer led the way with four goals and one assist.
- Sean Berrigan totaled three goals and one assist, and Hans Huber contributed one goal and three assists.
- Goalkeeper Jaz Zanelli made four saves across 42 minutes before giving way to the backup.
- Faceoff specialist Colin McLoy paced the Bison with nine ground balls.
TEAM STATS
- Bucknell held a 53-31 advantage in shots and won the faceoff battle, 19-9.
- Turnovers were even at 13 apiece.
- Both teams converted once on extra-man opportunities.
- After scoring seven goals in each of the first four outings, the Gaels surpassed that mark on Tuesday.
