NEW YORK, NY — Junior Zoey Ward of the Iona University women's basketball team was named Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Tuesday morning. The accolade comes a day after Ward was named the MAAC Player of the week.

The Gastonia, NC native is the first Gael to receive the weekly honor since Juana Camilion '22, '23 MA back on February 11, 2020.

Ward averaged 22.5 points and 13.0 rebounds per game in the 2-0 weekend for the Gaels. She shot 53.1% (17-of-32) from the field and 50% (6-of-12) from downtown. Her back-to-back double-double efforts pushed her season total to eight, ranking tied for second with teammate Isabellah Middleton for second in the MAAC.

The junior registered 16 points and 11 rebounds in Thursday night's 61-52 win at Siena. She capped the week by posting a career-high 29 points and a career-high 15 rebounds in the 66-55 victory at Saint Peter's on Saturday to extend Iona's winning streak to four straight.
