LEWISTON, NY - The Iona University women's lacrosse team dropped a narrow 11-10 decision to Niagara on March 25, 2026, at Niagara Field. The Gaels (3-7, 0-2 MAAC) rallied from a four-goal fourth-quarter deficit but were unable to complete the comeback after a late Purple Eagles score secured the result.
Iona opened the scoring with back-to-back goals from Alyssa Castellano and Brianna Reynolds to take an early 2-0 lead. Niagara answered with three straight goals to close the first quarter ahead, 3-2, and carried that momentum into the middle periods. The Purple Eagles outscored the Gaels 7-4 across the second and third quarters to build a 10-6 advantage entering the final frame.
The Gaels responded with urgency in the fourth, stringing together four consecutive goals to even the score at 10-10. Calen Norton capped the run with the tying goal off a feed from Bella Duffy at the 4:57 mark. Niagara answered less than a minute later with the game-winner, and Iona was unable to find another equalizer in the closing minutes.
