Iona Baseball Falls to FDU 4-3 in Midweek Matchup

TEANECK, NJ — The Iona University baseball team fell to FDU, 4-3, in a midweek matchup. The Gaels took their first lead of the game in the third inning on an RBI single, but the Knights responded in the bottom half of the frame to tie the score at one. The Gaels regained control in the fourth, building a 3-1 advantage, before FDU answered again in the bottom of the inning to cut the deficit to one. After several quiet innings, the Knights delivered the decisive blow in the seventh with a go-ahead home run to take a 4-3 lead. The Gaels threatened in the eighth but were unable to capitalize, and the Knights sealed the victory with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Game Summary

The first two innings were quiet for both squads, as the teams combined for just two hits. The Maroon and Gold broke through in the top of the third when AJ Oden delivered an RBI single to give the Gaels a 1-0 lead. The Knights responded in the bottom half with a two-out rally, capitalizing on an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1.

In the fourth, the Maroon & Gold opened the inning with back-to-back walks. Both runners advanced on a fielder's choice before redshirt freshman Aiden Ciprian drove in a run with an RBI single. Senior Damien Rodriguez followed with a sacrifice fly to extend the Gaels' lead to 3-1. FDU answered in the bottom of the inning with another RBI single to trim the deficit to one.

Both bullpens settled in over the next few innings, keeping the offenses in check until the bottom of the seventh. The Knights broke through with a two-run home run to take a 4-3 lead heading into the eighth.

The Gaels threatened in the top of the eighth after a single from senior Nickolas Mora and a double from redshirt freshman Cole Silvia put runners in scoring position, but consecutive strikeouts ended the rally. The Maroon & Gold went down in order in the ninth, falling to FDU by a final score of 4-3.
