Iona WLAX Drops Final Road Game To Siena, 13-6

LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Iona University women's lacrosse team fell to 3-12 overall following a 13-6 defeat to Siena on April 11 at Hickey Field. Despite a strong and competitive start, a decisive fourth-quarter surge by the Saints proved too much for the Gaels to overcome.

Iona struck first just three minutes into the contest, as Abby Axe found the back of the net off an assist from Kacie Scarduzio. The Gaels maintained momentum early, taking a 2-1 lead midway through the opening quarter behind a goal from Jocelyn Smith.

Siena responded with two unanswered goals to close the period, taking a narrow 3-2 advantage into the second frame.

The middle quarters were defined by defensive intensity on both sides. Iona's defense, anchored by goalkeeper Lauren Sweeney, kept the game within reach as she tallied 11 saves on the day. Heading into the fourth quarter, the Gaels remained within striking distance, trailing just 5-4.

The final quarter, however, belonged to Siena. The Saints erupted for six goals in the fourth, led by Hailey Deptula, who finished with a game-high five goals. Sara Curley also played a key role in the surge, completing her hat trick with two goals in the closing period.

Iona struggled to gain possession down the stretch, securing just one draw control in the fourth quarter compared to Siena's seven. Sydney Grassi and Sydney Langton each added late goals for the Gaels, but the deficit proved too large to overcome.
