THE RUNDOWN
Sacred Heart held a narrow 3-2 edge after the opening quarter as both sides traded goals throughout. Sophomore
Cullen Lawry opened the scoring for Iona, finishing an unassisted effort at the 10:24 mark to level the score at 1-1. Later in the period, sophomore
Jimmy Kennedy converted on a man-up opportunity to even the game at 2-2 with 4:20 remaining, which stood as the final tie.
A late first-quarter goal from the Pioneers sparked a decisive 9-0 run that stretched into the third. Iona broke through late in the third stanza when sophomore
Jake Riglietti capitalized on a man-up chance. The visitors found a late push over the final stretch, closing the game with a 4-2 scoring edge.
IONA PERFORMERS
- Sophomore Jimmy Kennedy and sophomore Cullen Lawry each found the back of the net twice to pace the offense.
- Sophomore Vincent Pititto contributed a goal and an assist, factoring into multiple scoring sequences.
- Sophomore Jake Riglietti added a man-up tally during the second half surge.
- Lawry and sophomore Gary Shivell were active in possession play, each collecting four ground balls.
- Sophomore Noah Perea made 13 saves in goal, keeping the visitors within reach through stretches of pressure.
THE OPPONENT
- Will Moulton led all scorers with five points, combining two goals with three assists to drive the attack.
- Jake Carney recorded a hat trick with three goals, finishing efficiently on scoring chances.
- Matt Pepe facilitated the offense with a goal and three assists.
- John Murray and James Moran each added two goals to balance the scoring effort.
- Ryan Grove controlled the faceoff battle with eight wins while adding five ground balls.
- Craig Daria anchored the defensive effort with four caused turnovers and 11 saves in net.
