Iona Women's Golf Competes In First-Ever MAAC Championship

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – The Iona University women's golf team made program history this week, competing in its first-ever Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship at the Disney Magnolia Course from April 21–23.

Facing a full field of conference competition in the 54-hole event, the Gaels finished 10th overall. Despite the final placement, the tournament marked a significant milestone for the program, as Iona continued to gain valuable experience on the conference stage.

Over the three-day championship, the Maroon & Gold showed steady improvement with each round. Iona opened the tournament with a +61 team score, followed by a +47 in round two, before closing with its strongest performance of the event at +35 in the final round.

Iona's lineup featured Michaela Fernandez and Maria Luiza Soares, who both led the way for the Gaels with top-30 finishes. Leia McKenzie followed with a 35th place finish, while Makenna Paxton placed 44th and Cassandra Pinho finished just behind her in 45th.

Quinnipiac University captured the team title at the championship, while Sophia Fujita of Quinnipiac earned medalist honors for the second consecutive year.
