McKenzie, Soares Named WGCA All-American Scholars

FRISCO, TX - Iona women's golfers Leia McKenzie and Maria Luiza Soares were named to the 2025-26 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Team, the organization announced on July 13.

McKenzie and Soares were among 1,551 women's collegiate golfers recognized nationwide for their outstanding achievements in the classroom during the 2025-26 academic year.

The WGCA All-American Scholar Team recognizes student-athletes who excel both academically and athletically. The honor carries some of the most rigorous academic standards in collegiate athletics. To earn recognition, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher, remain on their team's roster through the conclusion of the season, and compete in at least 50 percent of the team's regularly scheduled competitive rounds through the conference championship.

McKenzie and Soares helped lead the Gaels throughout the 2025-26 season while demonstrating a commitment to academic excellence, continuing Iona's tradition of success in the classroom.
