PENNSAUKEN, NJ – The Iona University men's rowing team competed at the Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta on Friday on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, NJ. The Gaels raced in the Men's Varsity 4+ and Men's Varsity 8+ events against a nationally competitive field.
 

MEN'S VARSITY 4+

TRIAL HEAT

The Gaels recorded a time of 7:55.39 in the Men's Varsity 4+ trial race. Drexel won the heat in 6:21.34, followed by Mercyhurst at 6:24.16 and Queen's at 6:27.57.
 
The Iona varsity four lineup featured freshman Andrew Yates, freshman Bogdan Gelevan, junior William Bogenrief, sophomore Jonah Cone, and junior Nick Pagliuca.
 

SEMIFINAL 2

Iona returned in semifinal action and posted a time of 8:38.66. Mercyhurst won the race in 6:44.12, while Queen's finished second at 6:48.80 and Temple placed third in 6:56.01.
 

MEN'S VARSITY 8+

TRIAL HEAT

The Gaels posted a time of 5:59.43 in the Men's Varsity 8+ trial race. Temple won the heat in 5:22.73, followed by Drexel at 5:24.56 and La Salle at 5:29.41.
 
The Iona varsity eight boat consisted of freshman Hugh Mathieson, senior Abraham Ocampo, senior Jack Allen, freshman Tristan Hargrove, freshman Roman Hescock, senior Andrew Catinella, sophomore John Karounos, freshman Ethan Pond, and freshman Hayden Cohen.
 

FINAL 3

Iona returned in Final 3 and recorded a 6:31.83 finish. Hobart captured the race in 5:49.84, while Stetson finished second at 5:54.75 and Embry-Riddle placed third in 5:57.92.
 

UP NEXT

Iona is back in action tomorrow at the 2026 Dad Vail Regatta in Pennsauken, NJ on the Cooper River for the second final tomorrow at 4:10 p.m.
