Forfeits, Concedes & Protests
In order to ensure that all facility space is maximized, the following rules apply to teams that do not meet the necessary requirements to participate.
10-Minute Grace Period:
For every intramural activity there is a 10-minute grace period in which teams have 10 additional minutes beyond the scheduled starting time to field the minimum number of players required for the start of play. After the 10-minute grace period, the team that has the required number of players to start the contest will win by way of forfeit.
Each time a team forfeits, $10.00 will be subtracted from the $20.00 team entry deposit taken at the beginning of the season. This cost covers the payments of the officials scheduled to work the game.
Any team that forfeits twice during the regular season will not be allowed to participate in the postseason.
Concedes:
A team may concede a contest prior to the start of the scheduled time to avoid being charged with a forfeit. In order to qualify for a concede, the team must call the Intramural Office at least 12 hours prior to the starting of the contest, so that the Intramural Office may alert the other team of the concede.
Protests:
The Intramural Office recognizes the fact that in some instances a referee/official may make an incorrect call or decision. The protest procedure is an attempt to provide equal opportunities for all teams to win. In the event that a team wishes to protest a game, the captain is the only person that can formally file a protest.
To file a protest, the captain must formally file the protest with the sight supervisor during the game. The sight supervisor will make a decision regarding the protest during that game. Protests that can not be resolved during the game will be brought to the Intramural Athletic Council for further deliberation. NOTE: No decisions will be made regarding judgment calls made by the referee.
Injury & Liability
Each player must realize that intramural activities are intrinsically more dangerous than normal, every day life. Therefore, each player must assume some risk in participating in intramural activities. Understand that the Intramural Sports Office, Iona College, and all its agents do not assume any responsibility for payment of medical treatment or services not covered by an individual’s health insurance or not offered through the Student Health Center. Therefore, all students are strongly urged to have personal health insurance, through personal or family policies.
Any injury should be immediately reported to the on sight Intramural Supervisor.
Alcohol & Drug Use
The Intramural Sports Staff assigned to the playing contest have the authority and responsibility in making decisions regarding students who are not permitted to participate based on:
- A student's breath smells of alcohol.
- A student's actions and language are unacceptable.
- Teams and/or individuals guilty of alcohol or drug use will be asked to leave the playing area and may be barred from further competition for the remainder of the year
