Head Coach
Pat Carey of the Iona College baseball program has announced the addition of
John Galanoudis as Assistant Coach for the 2017-18 academic year, working primarily with the outfielders and batters.
Galanoudis recently completed his lone season as volunteer assistant with the Hofstra Baseball program in 2017. He joined the staff after spending the previous year and a half as an assistant coach at St. Thomas Aquinas College. While in Hempstead, the Pride offense totaled 42 homeruns in 51 games while adding a .332 on-base percentage.
At St. Thomas Aquinas, Galanoudis served as the first base coach, assistant hitting coach and strength and conditioning coach, helping the Spartans to a 37-17 record and a NCAA East Region semifinal appearance in 2016. He also ran offensive workouts and worked with the outfielders and baserunners throughout the 2016 fall for a STAC team that would eventually win the 2017 East Regional and appear in the 2017 Division II National Championship.
Galanoudis was a four-year letterwinner at Molloy College. He posted a career batting average of .308 with 188 hits, 110 RBIs and six home runs in 175 games for the Lions. He was also a three-time All-East Coast Conference selection. Off the field, he served a three-year term as the East Coast Conference representative to the NCAA Division II National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), providing the student-athletes a voice on the NCAA Convention Floor regarding legislation and other key issues affecting Division II student-athletes.
After graduating from Molloy with a degree in history, Galanoudis signed a professional contract with the Las Vegas Train Robbers of the Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs. In his one season, Galanoudis posted a .280 batting average with two home runs and 15 RBIs. The Farmingdale native has been involved in hitting instruction, camps, and clinics around Long Island and has worked with various Long Island amateur baseball organizations.
In 2016, Galanoudis managed the New York Cardinals of the North Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League to a 22-10 record and coached the West Division in the 2016 NACBL All-Star Game. In 2017, he served as General Manager/Coach of the NY Red Birds and NY Cardinals, with the NY Red Birds finishing with a 24-12 overall record capturing the 2017 LICBL Championship. He is also an ISSA certified strength and conditioning coach.
