Michael Scimanico enters his fourth season as an assistant coach at Iona in 2024-25.
Scimanico joins the program after a standout career as a player and pitching coach at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Va. At Shenandoah, Scimanico was a three-time All-ODAC selection, a two-time all-state pick and a D3Baseball.com All-American. As a senior, he averaged 10.75 strikeouts per nine innings and turned in a 2.35 ERA in 84.1 innings of work.
The Dumont, N.J., native stayed on as pitching coach after graduating in 2016. In three seasons, Shenandoah made it to three regionals, one super regional and won two conference tournament championships. The pitching staff had two players selected in the MLB Draft. Before joining the Gaels Scimanico was a volunteer assistant pitching coach for the Seton Hall Pirates.
Scimanico also played professionally in various independent leagues from 2016-19, most recently for the Utica Unircorns in the USPBL.
