Biography

Andrew Abt was named assistant strength and conditioning coach in August 2014. Abt previously worked with the Gaels in the summer of 2013 as a strength and conditioning intern.

Abt most recently served as a football strength and conditioning intern at the University of Connecticut. Working with multiple NFL prospects, Abt performed fitness and strength testing as well as assisted in instrucion of all dynamic warm ups. Abt worked with injured players, and also instructed the running mechanics.

Abt also worked at Velocity Sports Performance as a sports performance coach. He worked with athletes ranging from elementary-school aged to semi-pro athletes. In this role, he was involved in warm up instructions and taught max velocity, acceleration and multi directional workouts. He intrsuted olympic lifts also weight room supervision.

In his previous stint at Iona, Abt trained the Gaels' athletes for three months, specifically basketball, volleyball, baseball, soccer, lacrosse, water polo and swimming and diving. He ran individual personalized training sessions and performed fitness/strength testing, and taught olympic lifts.

Abt is also the head strength & conditioning coach at ABTsolute Sports Performance in Stamford CT. Abt trains middle school to Division I collegiate athletes, in Olympic lifts as well as agility training. Two of his rugby playing clients have been named All-Americans.

Andrew Abt is a certified NSCA Strength and Conditioning Specialist and USA Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach. He graduated from Kutztown University in May 2014 with a bachelor's degree in sport management with a concentration in health and fitness.
