Iona College baseball head coach Pat Carey announced the appointment of Adam Taraska as assistant coach for the 2009 season.

"Adam is a very energetic, reliable baseball guy who can really help our staff," said Carey.  "With his experience as an assistant at Caldwell, he knows how to coach and how to win."

Taraska comes to New Rochelle from Caldwell College in New Jersey where he spent the 2008 season with the Cougars.  He assisted the team to a regular and postseason championship in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC).  The Cougars posted a 2-2 at record in the Division II Northeast Regionals hosted by Franklin Pierce.

Taraska has been a head coach with the Team Connecticut Blue Jays AAU program for six years. In 2008, the program produced two national championship teams: the 18-and-under and 15-and-under squads.  In 2007, his 18-and-under team won the Silver Championship at the Fletcher World Series in St. Petersburg, Fla. They also captured the gold medal at the 2007 Nutmeg State Games.

Taraska played baseball at the University of Bridgeport, where he was a starting infielder and team captain. He helped the Purple Knights set the school for wins in a season as a sophomore and also earned the team’s Coach’s Award as a senior. Taraska graduated in 2004 with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services.

A native of Willston Park, NY, Taraska attended Herricks High School in New Hyde Park, NY. He currently lives in Bridgeport, CT.
