Joe Galgano is in his ninth season working with the Gaels. He will continue to coordinate the film exchange while also helping to oversee the management of equipment, managers, and travel. From 1997-2002, he served as the team's strength and conditioning coordinator.
Prior to arriving at Iona, Galgano was an assistant coach at Concordia College in Bronxville, NY from 1994-1997. He helped guide the program to its first postseason victory.
From 1991-1994, Galgano was the highly successful head coach at Mount Vernon H.S. in Mount Vernon, NY. He was named 1993 Coach of the Year by the Westchester County Basketball Association and by the Westchester/Rockland Gannett Newspaper group after leading the Knights to the Class A, 1-A League and Section 1 titles.
He also served as head coach of Westchester County in the 1993 New York Golden Hoops All-Star Classic.
A 1986 graduate of Manhattan College, Galgano earned his master's degree in health education at Lehman College in 1991. He has been a teacher in the Mount Vernon school system since 1986.
He resides in Scarsdale, NY with his wife Silvia and son Stephen.
