Nicholas Adams is the co-captain for the Iona College men's rowing team and is in his fourth season as a member of the program.
Before coming to Iona, Adams went to Bethpage High School and was a part of the Varsity Golf Team for 2 years during my junior and senior year of high school.
Since joining the team, Adams has made several accomplishments. As a freshman he was a part of the Novice 4, which placed 10th out of 36 crews at the Knecht Cup Regatta in 2012. He has a collection of medals from winning with his team at the Sacred Heart Invitational, Fall Metropolitan Championships, and Spring Metropolitan Championships in the Men's Pair, Men's Lightweight Four,Men's Varsity 4, and Men's Varsity 8. Adams was also a key player in the Men's Varsity 8 crew that won gold in the 2013 Spring Metropolitan Championships. This crew was the first to win the V8 since 2008. At the 2014 Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta, Adams and his team were semi-finalist in the Lightweight 4. At the 2014 MAAC Championships his team took the silver medal for the Lightweight 4 and at the 2013 and 2012 MAAC Championships, in Varsity 8, Adams and the team took bronze.
Adams chose Iona because of the great atmosphere, being surrounded by peers, and its close proximity to NYC. "In addition, the small campus can be seen as a disadvantage to most but having a smaller campus makes you feel more of a family amongst your peers and able to relate to each other very easily over school work and other activities," said Adams.
According to Adams, his biggest accomplishment in life so far has been going to college, maintaining a 3.5 GPA, and staying on the Dean's Honor List while participating in a sport that was unfamiliar to him before Iona. Another big accomplishment has been becoming the co-captain in his senior year, after not knowing much about the sport when he first started as a freshman.
