Donald Hathorn

Donald Hathorn

Donald Hathorn is in his second season as assistant coach of the Iona College men's soccer program in 2014. Hathorn previously served as assistant coach at Niagara University.

“Once again we have been able to hire another great coach here at Iona," said Barboto.  "Donnie has great experience as both player and coach in the MAAC, which will assure us pure 'know how' of the conference landscape.”

At Niagara, Hathorn assisted with all facets of the Purple Eagles program, headed opponent scouting and coordinated game write-up and video exchanges.

Hathorn helped the Purple Eagles establish a strong recruiting base, both domestically and internationally, that produced significant results.  He was also accountable for all travel, scheduling, itineraries, lodging, transportation, and meals.

Responsible for the academic monitoring of student-athletes, Hathorn implemented and organized study tables, providing meetings and guidance for at-risk student-athletes, and communication with professors to help resolve issues that may arise. In his one season with the program, the NSCAA recognized the Purple Eagles with the Team Academic Award.

Hathorn also researched and implemented numerous community service events as well as tracked and maintained compliance standards to protect the integrity of the program.

Hathorn spent the 2010 season as assistant men's soccer coach at Valparaiso University in Indiana where he assisted in team training, recruiting, game management, scouting, fundraising, summer camps and academic mentoring of student-athletes. The 2010 Crusaders placed three members on All-Horizon League team and the team was a recipient of the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the eighth straight year.

Prior to Valparaiso, Hathorn coached at Division II Regis University in Denver, CO from 2008-2010. Hathorn served as both assistant coach and interim head coach during his time with the men's soccer program. During his tenure at Regis, Hathorn had four All-Central Region First Team and three All-RMCA First Team selections as the team combined for a 17-14-6 overall record.

In 2007, Hathorn was assistant women's soccer coach at Northern Arizona in Flagstaff, AZ where he was in charge of the goalkeepers. Hathorn was also the director of coaching for the Flagstaff United Soccer Club.

Hathorn was a four-year member on the men's soccer team at Siena and was a three-time MAAC All-Academic honoree.

Hathorn graduated with bachelor's degree in marketing and management from Siena in 2003 and earned a MBA from Northern Arizona in 2007.
